About a week ago, we shared with you the story of Missing in Action Army Air Forces Staff Sgt. Byron H. Nelson and how, after 73 years of having his family having no answers as to how and where he died, he was returning to home to Iowa to be buried with full military honors.
On Saturday, July 1st, Sgt. Nelson was finally laid to rest in his home town of Primghar, Iowa. A large number of the community came to the burial ceremony to pay their final respects to the soldier who died after his plane was gunned down while flying a mission over Italy in 1944.
Below is the news report from the ceremony for that day from KWWL Reporter, Elizabeth Amanieh.
