A new investigation from the Pentagon is set to launch as officials try to solve the mystery of the USS Turner. Dozens of the Turner’s crew were listed as missing after the World War II naval ship sank off the shores of Sandy Hook, NJ on January 3rd, 1944 but WWII researcher, Ted Darcy, found documents listing four of the missing sailors as unknowns, buried in the Long Island military cemetery.
Currently, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer is helming this investigation on behalf of the families who lost a loved one on the Turner:
I will work with the families to cut through red tape and ensure that the Department of Defense’s POW/MIA Accounting Agency does everything it can to try to properly identify these brave Americans.
The Pentagon states that the identification of these sailors must meet the strictest of protocols and can not begin until they have all the necessary documentation for all the sailors, including their dental records.
